Consultant Psychiatrist , General Psychiatry
I studied medicine in Nottingham and trained in psychiatry with the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (Guys and St Thomas’ hospitals) and at St Mary’s Hospital. I am a general adult psychiatrist and have experience working with the full range of mental health problems that are encountered in adulthood. In addition to my private practice, which has been built gradually over 15 years, I continue to work as an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist in London.
One of my main areas of specialist expertise is Adult ADHD. I work in one of the very few London-based NHS specialist Adult ADHD services. I am on the Executive Board of UKAAN (the main professional organisation for Adult ADHD in the UK) and I am UKAAN’s Training Programme Director. The comprehensive training programme UKAAN offers is highly respected in the UK and recognised internationally for its quality. I lecture widely on the topic of Adult ADHD and its management.
I am also Medical Director of ‘The Grove Practice’, an established central London psychotherapy and training organisation. The Grove is currently involved in providing specialist trauma-focussed therapy for those affected by the Grenfell Tower disaster.
I have, in recent years, worked as a psychiatrist to a London-based university, seeing students with mental health difficulties. I am one of very few psychiatrists also trained as a psychotherapist (integrating a variety of trainings including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Hypnotherapy, EMDR and EFT into my psychiatric practice). I have also done some training in nutrition, a particular area of interest.
I have recently introduced two new, cutting-edge interventions to support my clinical approach:
I am co-author of a textbook on Adult ADHD, and editor of a book on alcoholism in high functioning individuals. I am (co)author of a number of papers both in Adult ADHD and Liaison psychiatry.
I am currently chairing a team of European experts in the 2018 update of the pharmacotherapy section of the European Consensus Statement on Diagnosis and Treatment of Adult ADHD.
I occasionally do medico-legal work related to Adult ADHD.

I am a General Adult Psychiatrist with expertise in a wide variety of Mental Health Conditions, including Anxiety and Mood related disorders and have special interests in Psychological Medicine, Psychosomatics and Pain. Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist
I was a consultant in child and adolescent psychiatry in the NHS for over 25 years in NELFT. I was medical director in NELFT for 6 years will 2014.
The problems young people experience fall into three categories.
Firstly they may develop a mental health condition, with symptoms, for example, depression, anxiety and OCD are common conditions.
Secondly they may have one of the neuro-developmental disorders, ADHD or ASD for example.
Thirdly they may have got into a significant struggle with managing how they feel. This problem is not a condition or a disorder but how they understand and process their feelings, which when it goes wrong leaves a young person feeling overwhelmed, isolated, even out of touch with their feelings, which can lead to cutting or other maladaptive behaviours. These three problems can present separately or together.
My approach is to take a developmental perspective, to explore the young persons history and life experiences, and from there assess for symptoms to identify if a condition is present, to look for neuro-developmental struggles and their associated behaviours and to explore emotional struggles. Once it is clear what the problem is it is possible to agree a treatment plan
My main aim is to help a child/young person to continue, or resume, a healthy development so they can achieve at school/college and socially.

Over the years, I developed a broad range of clinical and research expertise working in Italy, UK and USA.
I have experience in the assessment and treatment of different types of Psychiatric disorders including Anxiety (Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Generalized Anxiety), Mood Disorders (Depression, Bipolar Illness), Psychosis (e.g. Schizophrenia), and Personality Disorders.

Consultant Psychiatrist, Sleep Specialist
Curiosity, a desire to truly understand things and a deep interest in people are the key elements that run through my ongoing educational & professional journey, and continue to shape my clinical practice.
For the best part of the last twenty years; through Medical School, Philosophy, Clinical Psychiatry and the world of Neuroscience Research it is particular individuals and specific moments, that continue to influence me most. Across many institutions and a diverse range of settings, I have learnt most from individuals and teams who do not know it all, from those who are open to learning and from individuals who are able to bring a sense of possibility to each new moment and experience.
Curiosity, and a deep interest in people, have motivated my higher training in Adult Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry and the field of Sleep Medicine and were key features of my work as a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist within the London National Health Service.
During my time as a Consultant Adult Psychiatrist within the NHS I contributed positively to developing a healthy team dynamic, brought structure and methodology to challenges facing the service, and held clinical responsibility for a large number of patients, including those on community treatment orders, and restriction orders under the Ministry of Justice working within both adult community mental health assessment and recovery teams.
I am Section 12 approved, I have Approved Clinician Status and regularly provide Medicolegal Services as an independent expert.
I have a Master’s Degree in Behavioral Sleep Medicine. I am very interested in the clear links between sleep wake function and emotional health and wellbeing.
I am also very interested in Adult Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Addiction, Mood and Anxiety Disorders.

Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist
I have experience and training in 3 different countries and cultures, Pakistan, USA, and UK. This affords me a wide range of approaches to best treat my patients. My training in the United States and the United Kingdom was well rounded in the diagnoses and use of multiple treatment modalities, i.e. psychoanalytic approaches, group and family work, medication and CBT.
I love my work, each person presents a challenge, ‘what is the problem, how can they be helped?’ I wanted to apply a similar approach in society for charitable purposes. I set up a UK Registered Charity, Concern for Mental Health, to help people suffering from a mental illness. Our work centres on consulting with ailing Psychiatric Institutions, teaching and training Mental Health Professionals and creating innovative programs that fit in naturally with the local ethos and culture, campaigning to reduce stigma around mental illness.
I have a wide understanding of development, psychology and pathology. I lecture on diverse topics related to my work and interests at national and local hospital meetings in the USA and UK, and have publications and presentations related to these topics:

DERNIERS OUVRAGES PARUS :
