What is caregiver training and who is it for?
The entourage and the family are essential elements in all types of management of a mental illness or disorder.
It is easier to cope with mental illness when you are surrounded by others.
When you are with someone living with mental illness, simple things can make all the difference.
It is recommended that you learn as much as possible about the illness that afflicts your loved one. It will be easier to understand your loved one’s behaviour or reaction. You will then be able to adapt your behaviour.
Find out about the resources available in your area: self-help or support groups, help with daily living, day or community centres, etc… Groupe Sinoué’s establishments are, of course, among these resources.
As a caregiver, you must respect your limits. If you feel that you need help yourself, don’t hesitate to ask for it from family and friends or health professionals.
Take some time off and set aside some free time to get away from it all and have fun. You will then come back in force to continue your work as a caregiver.
Learn how to better manage stress. Consider relaxation techniques such as meditation or breathing exercises.
Learn to delegate. If you want to do everything yourself perfectly, you’ll burn out. Don’t be embarrassed to ask for help, for example, with household chores.
To better manage your role as a caregiver, and to accompany your loved one in the best possible way, you can ask us and take part in our caregiver training courses.
