Research and development in psychiatry

Design innovative treatments and tools to offer the most personalized support possible to the patient

The treatments and support being developed within Groupe SINOUÉ

In terms of psychiatry, the treatments and support offered to patients are not always 100% efficient.. The reality is that in most cases, the methods and solutions used can still be improved.

Groupe SINOUÉ’s ambition and philosophy are to offer innovative and personalized treatments and support to its patients. It is for this reason that innovation is at the heart of the group’s strategy and that we are continually working on experimental treatments to improve patient care.

Here, below, are some innovative treatments and accompaniments, currently being developed within the establishments of Groupe SINOUÉ.

Therapies by exposure to virtual reality (VRT)

Virtual Reality Therapy, or VRT is the future of phobia treatment. They are already available in some of our facilities.

They are intended for patients with specific phobias (fear of planes, heights, certain animals, the car, closed places, vomiting …), social phobia, agoraphobia (fear of making a panic attack in some places).

Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT) are the standard treatment for anxiety disorders, and in particular for phobias. They consist in gradually exposing the patient to the object of his phobia in order to accustom him to it and possibly make the fear disappear. This is usually done in the office, or in the patient’s usual environment. However, this type of process has limits because many patients are too afraid to benefit from it. VRT can then allow them to push their limits.

Indeed, VRT benefit from scientific validation, and allow the creation of many phobogenic situations. These methods also allow for ease of exposure to the object of the phobia, accompanied by a therapist.

Psychosocial rehabilitation

Psychosocial rehabilitation aims to support people suffering from chronic disorders towards social or professional integration.

It is an adapted and personalized approach for each patient, taking into account their subjective wishes and factors, their possible cognitive disorders and their skills. This personalization of care is done through a dedicated evaluation device.

The patients are then accompanied in:

  • the development of practical skills: autonomy in journeys, budget management, etc.

  • improving their skills and knowledge necessary for carrying out activities in society: communication and interpersonal skills, punctuality, relationships with others, observing instructions …

  • reducing the impact of cognitive deficits (cognitive remediation) and/or improving knowledge of the disease and its treatments (therapeutic education).

Psychic reconstruction processes are also supported, which contributes to promoting the implementation of a life project (obtaining independent housing or entering an appropriate institution, involvement in social activities, professional integration, etc.)

Social rehabilitation allows the patient to gradually regain practical, daily autonomy, but also to build a life project based in particular on professional integration and economic independence.
