ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

The contribution of artificial intelligence in the treatment of psychiatric disorders and pathologies

Interest of artificial intelligence in psychiatry

Scientific literature alone does not allow practitioners to make fully informed decisions about treatment and support for psychiatric disorders. It is therefore relevant to consider additional decision-making tools for healthcare professionals.

In addition, the therapies put in place can take some time to present concrete effects. However, the treatments put in place, if they have no effect, represent several weeks or months of daily struggle for the patient. There is therefore a crucial issue in being able to predict a patient’s response to a treatment. This would be a crucial breakthrough in psychiatry. The new tools based on artificial intelligence seem to be able to help leading psychiatry towards more personalization in the treatments and offered support.

Artificial intelligence seems to open up many perspectives in psychiatry: identifying risk factors, predicting prognoses, optimizing the effectiveness of treatments, minimizing their costs and their undesirable effects …

Applications

To be applied in the field of psychiatry, artificial intelligence must be based on a rich and reliable database, drawn from the field and from a multitude of cases and patient records. This information would then feed into algorithms to allow them to learn and adjust to reality, with multiple repetitions.

The use of these tools based on artificial intelligence, within multiple health care facilities, would make it possible to update the algorithms and update them in order to make them more efficient.

The goal would be to create a real therapeutic decision-making tool, which would also have the ability to predict the effectiveness of treatments.
